☛ address (V.) 向...致詞; 稱呼... ; (向)...提出; (給...)寫信

1) Max is going to address the meeting.
麥克斯即將跟大會進行致詞

2) Caroline address Max as "Miss Black".
凱瑞蘭稱呼麥克斯為布萊克小姐

3) This letter is addressed to Cathy.
這封信是寫給凱西的


☛ arbitrate (V.) 仲裁; 調停; 公斷 (通常在爭議方要求下)

1) Caroline has been asked to arbitrate between the opposing sides.

凱瑞蘭不斷被要求仲裁對立的雙方

2) An outside adviser has been brought in to arbitrate the dispute between the management and the union.
請來一位協力廠商的顧問資方與工會之間的爭端進行仲裁


☛ arrange (V.) 安排; 籌備; 整理; 不治; 洽商; 商妥

1) Max will arrange everything. 
麥克斯會安排一切

2) It was arranged that Glenn should leave the following spring.
葛蘭已經被安排第二年春天離開


☛ author (V.) 開創; 發起; 著作; 編寫
                 (n.) 作者; 作家; [正式] 發起者/始創人


☛ correspond (V.) 符合、一致(+ to/with); 相當、相應(+ to); 通信(+with)
1) Maggie's actions will correspond with her words, I promise.
我保證瑪姬將會言行一致

2) The American Congress corresponds to the British Parliament.
美國國會相當於英國議會

3) Have you ever been corresponding with Glenn?
你曾經一直跟葛蘭通信嗎？
☛ draft (V.) 起草; 設計

e.g. I had to draft a cable home.
我必須要寫一份發往家裡的電報稿

 
☛ edit (V.) 編輯; 校訂; 剪輯; 剪接(影片/錄音等等)

e.g. Glenn spent all morning editing the book.
葛蘭整個上午都在邊寫這本書


☛ formulate (V.) 規劃(制度等); 想出(計劃等); 系統地闡述; 使公式化

1) Maggie could not formulate her ideas in a few words.

瑪姬無法用幾句話闡述她的思想

2) Raymon formulated his own strategy.
雷門制定了他的對策


☛ influence (V.) 影響; 作用; 左右

e.g. I don't want to influence you. You must decide on your own.
我不想影響你，你必須要自己決定


☛ interpret (V.) 解釋; 說明; 詮釋; 做口譯/當翻譯

1) Mathew's speech was so difficult that nobody could interpret his point.
馬修的演講實在是太艱澀了，以至於沒有人可以解釋他的觀點

2) We interpret a frown as a sign of disapproval.
我們把皺眉當作不贊成


☛ mediate (V.) 調停解決; 傳達; 調解; 幹璇;


☛ motivate (V.)  激起; 使產生動機; 激勵; 激發...的積極性

1) People are motivated by greed. 人們被貪婪所驅使

2) Teaching is all about motivating people to learn.
教學就是要激發人們學習


☛ negotiate (V.) 談判; 協商; 洽談

1) The government will not negotiate with the terrorists.
政府將不會與恐怖份子談判

2) They finally negotiated a peace treaty.
他們最終談判達成了一個和平條約


☛ persuade (V.) 說服


☛ promote (V.) 發起; 創立; 促進; 引起; 發揚; 宣傳; 推銷

1) The treaty will promote the cooperation between the two countries.

這條合約機會促進兩國的合作

2) Several entrepreneurs promoted the new company.
許多年輕企業家創立了這家新的公司

3) Your responsibility is to promote the new product.
你的責任就是要推銷新產品


☛ publicize (V.) 公布; 宣傳

1) Due to the publicized cases of sexual harassment, nobody dares to go out.
因為性騷擾案件的宣傳，沒有人敢出去了

2)) The event was well publicized all over town.
這件事在全城傳得沸沸揚揚


☛ reconcile (V.) 調停; 調解; 使和解; 使和好

e.g. Glenn and Maggie are soon reconciled after each quarrel.

葛蘭跟瑪姬在每次爭吵後很快就合好

☛ recruit (V.) 雇用; 聘用; 徵募

e.g. Most of the teachers there are recruited from abroad.

大部份在那的老師來自國外

☛ develop (V.) 開發; 詳盡闡述; 展開; 使成長/發達; 發展; 
1) Engineers tried the best to develop the applications.
工程師們盡力的開發應用程式

2) Swimming develops the muscles.
游泳能使肌肉發達
